What is the NDIS Price Guide?

The NDIS Price Guide, now officially called the NDIS Support Catalogue sets the maximum prices that registered NDIS providers can charge for funded supports. It is a document published by the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Agency) and updated periodically, with the main annual update typically happening in July each year following the Australian minimum wage review. Occasional mid-year updates also occur when policy changes require them.

If you are a participant with a plan-managed or self-managed plan, your plan manager or you (as the case may be) use these prices to process invoices and manage your budget. Agency-managed participants have prices applied automatically through the NDIS portal (myplace).

Understanding the price guide helps you verify invoices, compare providers, and make sure your budget is being used correctly.

The three support budgets

Every NDIS plan contains up to three separate budget types. Each has different rules about how the funding can be used:

Core Supports

The most flexible budget. Covers everyday activities and supports: Assistance with Daily Life, Assistance with Social and Community Participation, Consumables, and Transport. You can often move funding between Core sub-categories (with some exceptions), which gives you flexibility to use your budget where you need it most.

Capacity Building Supports

Designed to help you build skills and independence over time. Includes support coordination, improved living arrangements, finding and keeping a job, improved health and wellbeing, and more. Capacity Building funding is generally NOT flexible between sub-categories, money allocated to Support Coordination must be spent on Support Coordination, for example.

Capital Supports

For bigger-ticket items: assistive technology (mobility aids, communication devices, wheelchairs), home modifications (ramps, handrails, bathroom modifications), and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA). Capital funding is the least flexible, it must be spent on the specific item or modification approved in your plan, and usually requires quotes and approval before purchase.

Key changes in 2026

The 2025-26 price updates reflect the annual minimum wage review. Key categories to watch include:

  • Support worker hourly rates adjusted in line with the Fair Work Commission's annual minimum wage decision
  • Therapy support prices occupational therapy, speech pathology, psychology, and physiotherapy rate adjustments
  • Specialist Disability Accommodation SDA pricing and indexation changes

Note: Always confirm exact current prices at ndis.gov.au/providers/pricing-arrangements. Prices on this page are for general guidance only.

Support worker hourly rates (2026)

Support worker rates vary by time of day, day of week, and the nature of the support being delivered. As a general guide for 2025-26, standard weekday rates for Assistance with Social and Community Participation are in the range of $65-$80 per hour for standard 1:1 supports. Higher rates apply for:

  • Evening and Saturday supports (typically 125% of weekday rate)
  • Sunday supports (typically 150% of weekday rate)
  • Public holiday supports (typically 200% of weekday rate)
  • High intensity daily personal activities (trained staff, higher rate)

Group support ratios (1:2, 1:3, etc.) attract different per-participant rates that reflect the shared staffing cost. Group rates are typically lower per participant than 1:1 rates.

Rates change each July, always verify with your provider or directly at the NDIS support catalogue before budgeting.

How to read a line item

Every support in the NDIS catalogue has a Support Item Number a string of numbers and letters that uniquely identifies that support. For example: 01_002_0107_1_1

Breaking down the format:

  • First segment (01) Support category number
  • Second segment (002) Support item within the category
  • Third segment (0107) Support purpose code
  • Remaining segments Indicators for registration group and whether the support is pace-rated

Each line item also shows the unit (usually hour, day, or each), a price limit, and whether the item is available for agency-managed, plan-managed, or self-managed participants. When your provider sends an invoice or service booking, they reference these item numbers. You can look up any number in the NDIS support catalogue to verify the price.
